Success

Hey everyone, now everybody knows that even when you are doing something simple there is always something that goes wrong. So I thought to spite that statement I would tell the story about the engine swap that my father and I did this past holiday weekend. We had a original 305 Iroc Z28 and the engine started to make some noises that sounded either like a bearing that has had an issue, or a ring that cracked and a piece is missing. So we decided to swap the motor out to a 350 out of another 87 Iroc Z28. I guess it was as easy as it could get for a engine swap a 305 tpi engine to a 350 tpi that was already comlete. But we started the task on saturday removing the 305, then storing it until the we have the time to tear it apart and see what went wrong. Sunday we tore the 350 out of the other car which wasnt the most fun task because the 350 car hadnt been touched since 1987 it seems, from all the rust and basicly siezed bolts. When that engine finally came out we had been working all day in the 85 or 90 degree heat which made picking a tool up almost like branding yourself with the craftsman name. Anyways monday was the big day. We dropped the 350 in the old 305 car and we attached everything. All last checks were completed and we hooked up the battery, turned the key, and success it started after two cranks. Now the thing to remember about the 350 is that it had sat for probably 5 to 8 years before we bought it and we could only get it to run once in the car it was in for about 5 minutes. But it started right up when it was in the new body. Took it for a ride and looked everything over again. Sounds great, runs great and a huge improvement over my old 305. But just one more father son success story to read.

When I get home from college, I will post some preinstall pics and get more over the weekend. I dont know about the big block yet Right now just the 350 tpi is fun. I have however seen that everyone says that the tpi engines fall on their face at around 4500 rpm. I havent noticed it but maybe I just cant tell yet.
