Engine swap
Engine swap
Hello! I need help? I have a 1985 camaro had a V6 in it I am putting a 305 in it. My problem is I can not fine a bellhousing to fit the 5 speed transmission. I was told the camaro had 2 V6 engines. The larger V6 bellhousing would fit a V8 is this true? If so where can I fine one, If not what can I do. I need help bad can some one help me get my car on the road.
Thank You

Why would you put a 305 in it?? Why not go with the 350 and get the jump in power and torque??
I was faced with rebuilding my original 305 or putting a 350 and it cost about the same. Parts for 350s are cheap too....
Just my .02

A few years ago I had my choice of rebuilding a 305 or replacing it with a 350 and did the 350. I am quite happy with that choice.
Good Luck.

3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds only had one size of V6 housing. It is a 60 degree V6, and is different from the 90 degree (perhaps that is what your source meant by "larger") pattern.
I wouldn't recommend using the V6 T5 either. It's weak, isn't a direct bolt-on (at least with a decent sized clutch disk), and isn't worth the hassle, IMO.
This issue has all been frequently discussed on the Transmission and Drivetrain forum.

You can sell a V6 t5 for the same price of a v8 you can get one for about $250-$500 for either or... Sell it on ebay you dont have to say its a v6 one just say its a 16 spline.... because it is... if you go to an autoparts store and try to buy something for your transmission wether it be an oring, seal, or clutch it will ask you 26 spline or 16 spline regardless of engine. i gather its because the car is old and swapping trannys is common. ( i had a second job at parts store so i did some research ) But do not use a 16 spline. Sell it and buy a v8. sell it to a salvage yard..
