difference between truck 350 and iroc 350
Have a chance to get a 94 chevy truck 350 for free. what's the difference between it and a 350 from an 89 iroc? the irocs came with a roller cam and the truck doesn't. can it be made into a roller block and is there any other differences? thanks

I do not know specifics, but the IROC 350 (l98) is probably much different (more performance oriented) than a truck 350.
If you have a v6 or 305 now, the 350 is still a 350.

The blocks are the same. If you want to convert the truck block to use a roller cam, you'll need the spider, roller lifters, etc, but the basic block is the same. Heck, even if it was different, if it's free, grab it. Never know when you might need a spare.

The block castings were the same, but the truck blocks often were not finish machined for the roller lifters/cam. And the heads were swirlports. However, they are often 4-bolt main, while the IROCs never were.

i guess what i'm asking is what would have to be done to the truck 350 to make it into a roller block and be able to use an lt4 hot cam and roller lifters etc. thanks

You will just have to have provisions machined in for the spider thats the only difference, well and the cam plate.
Does anyone know of a place to find the specifics of a truck motor (heads/cam, etc). I have a ~95 truck engine in it to replace my 305, however it is not what I would call impressive. I just want to know it's stock specs so I can find what areas will improve the most.

I have a 350 out of a 93 chevy truck, The block is a one peice rear seal but it does not have provisions for roller cam so the 94 may be the same way. I eneded up not using it in my TA due to the cost of retrofit roller lifters.

Just to highlight and sum up some of the points that were made in this thread. The motor out of the '94 truck is an LO5 350 TBI and should be around 340lb ft and 220hp stock. It may or may not have the roller provisions cast into the block as Five and battman mentioned. If it does have the provisions (although lacking the final machining) you can run a roller set-up pretty easy. You will have to tap the spider bosses in the lifter valley and cam plate. Since those trucks used flat tappet set-ups you will need roller lifters, hydraulic roller cam, pushrods and springs that match the cam. The heads should be 113 castings (swirl port 64cc chamber heads). Other than the cam and induction this shortblock isn't much different than the L98. t In stock form the stock swirl port heads flow more on the exhaust side than the 083 L98 heads but a little behind on the intake. A little port work levels the playing field (if you are on a strict budget and have to use these heads).
