I have been studying and reading every article posible, for the past 6 months and still can seem to come up with the best answer. I have an 88 GTA 5.7 spun main bearings. I had the Tranny rebuilt. Getting ready for engine. 383 seems like the way to go, but not certain after reading the past 100 posts. I drive the car very little, just want something to run around with and maybe run some test and tune laps at the local track. I don't need a race engine by any means. I was thinking of buying, or building a simlar to stock 383. Then getting some heads and differant intake. I am going to spend around 3k total.The other option I have thought about is a 355. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Again if the motor lasts 30k miles I am happy. It will never see that many miles. I guess what I am looking for is opinions on building a budget 383 or building a better 350. I have found buget 383 long blocks with warranties, but am uncertain if they would be any better than a decent 350.
