What to do with gauges?

I have and 83 Z-28 with a cable driven speedometer. I am going to be putting in an ls1 soon (don't have it yet). I am try to figure out what to do with my gauges. Do I get the modified tail housing and keep stock gauges or go with aftermarket gauges.
My question is what did you all do or what are your doing with your gauges?

In my '86 bird with the mechanical speedo, I had two options. Buy a cable-x box for like 400 bucks to keep the '85 mph speedo, or swap out the cluster. I swapped the cluster out but went ahead and got the dash harness as well to make sure that everything was the same. I'm still running the same setup in my '87 GTA with no problems. All gauges work, including the SES light, low oil light etc etc.

I guess it depends what you want. Do you want a factory gauge look or the accuracy of the after market gauges. Some of the factory gauges are not that accurate. Personally I like the look of stock gauges. Unfortunally the 83 only has an 85mph speedometer so that kind of sucks since I’m sure you’ll have that LS1 going faster than 85. If you want to go with factory gauges you could swap in a 145 mph speedo from an 87-89. Of course that is a mechanical speedometer so you would convert the tail shaft of the transmission to accept a cable or buy this little gizmo.

Klortho what did you swap to? The 87 GTA?

I would like to keep it stock looking but it doesn't matter to me.
I thought about swaping out the cluster for an 90's version all electric gauges?

I swapped out the gauge cluster and harness that I had in my '86 bird back into the '87 GTA which the harness originally came out of. Starting in '87 Pontiac started putting in electric speedo's and in '91 Chevy swapped to an electric speedo in the camaro when they went to the yellow numbered gauges, which if you swapped it out, that is what you would need.
