V6 to v8 swap question

Hey i have a 92 3.1 RS that im going to be dropping a mild carburated 350 into. it has a t-5 now and i just want to buy a new bellhousing and clutch, and flywheel, and put the t-5 behind the v8, my only question is i believe the input shaft is like a 10 spline im not sure, but all the v8 clutches are 26 spline? What can i do? The reason i want to keep the trans is because i believe it is a worldclass one because it has the black blocking rings, and i just rebuilt it. Is there anyhting i can do about this?

The trans does not fit a V-8 bellhousing if it is from the 6

Even if it is WC, the V6 trans is going to be weaker than the V8 version. The input shaft has fewer splines because it is a smaller diameter. You aren't going to find a clutch disk that is both the same spline as the V6 trans and same diameter as the V8 disk. People have reported having a custom disk made up for them that accomplished that, but is it really worth it to accomodate a weaker link?

Dump the V6 T5 and get the right thing (which arguably is a T56. . .).

This is an incorrect statement, the transmission will fit, but just because it can doesn't mean you should. the v6 had 16 splines, V8's had 26. you can use a v6 tranny all day long, if of course you get a V8 bell housing, and you can live with a really small and crappy clutch...
i am sure you will do the right thing and get a v8 26 spline tranny... they run the same price as the V6's

If you're really intending to reuse that transmission, then Summit sells a clutch disc for S10 V8swaps that utilizes the V6 input shaft, while maintaining V8 diameter. Check for it at summitracing.com

QTA is on the right track as far as the disc : Advance Adapters Conversion Clutch Discs for S10 V8: ADD-716104 - summitracing.com

Thats the disc you need, its the correct diameter for the stock thirdgen V8 clutch, and the correct 1" 14 spline for the V6 trans.

You will need a V8 bellhousing, clutch fork, clutch cover, and flywheel, and more than likely need to grind a small bit off the front of the pilot on the input shaft.

Though I wouldnt plan on doing any racing on slicks or putting a 500 HP engine in front of one, in reality if you want to get a decent engine in there and know you'll be upgrading the trans when you have the money, you'll do just fine so long as your engine / driving are reasonable.

look up any replacement clutch for a v6 T5, they are all 14 spline, like the spec clutch sitting next to the 14 spline t5 in my basement...

I went to autozone.com, yes you were right. Now you can sleep at night with the satisfaction that for once you knew something. I retract all my previous statements.

isn't the bellhousing to transmission pattern in more of an "A" shape on the V6 and more of an "I" shape on the V8?

They are exactly the same, the V6 T5 bolts right up to the V8 bellhousing with no changes.
