Crate Engine...to later be supered
Alright so my outlook on dropping a 350 in my car right now is that I will by a bottem end assembled crate engine with low compression so i can later put a blower on it. I was looking at this GM Performance Parts 350 C.I.D. 260 HP Engine Assemblies: NAL-10067353 - summitracing.com
And would like to find something similar but w/o heads because I'll be opting for some nice aftermarket aluminum heads. So the question is: Does that engine have enough bang for the buck or would it be more worth building a junkyard block? I've built a junkyard block before but the biggest problem i ran into was the machine work ran me $1200 + $200 for the block. So it would make more sense to me to buy a block like this where I dont have to worry about anything being old. What do you guys think?

i dont think you're going to find anything cheap to buy. if youre going to go with good aftermarket heads anyway, id go the rebuild way. have it rebuilt as a 383 with stout stuff and low compression. depending on how much HP your going to have you dont know if a cheap bottom end is going to handle much.

This motor is only suitable for very low boost supercharged applications. it has non- hi performance cheapy cast pistons.
ok up to about 5-6psi. If you plan on more boost you should build your own low compression motor with stronger pistons and larger blower friendly ring end gaps. Federal Mogul has nice 22cc d dish blower/turbo forged pistons, just right for a blown 350.

I was curious about this particular application, because I'm interested in the same setup. Stock 330 with no intake and up. Drop the 6-71 in with about 5 psi boost. How much hp would the boost make?

About 20%. A mini blower would return a little more @5psi cause it takes less power to spin the blower.
