700r4 for 3800 series II
Hey I was wondering if my stock 700r4 out of my 1990 firebird with the 3.1L V6 would work with a 3800 series II out of a F-body? If not I can get a 4L60E for 400 bucks more but I'm always up for saving money.

I offer this response only because no one else has.
I believe the later 3800's used the same bellhousing pattern as the 60 degree V6. I know I've heard that people doing the Northstar swap used a 60 degree V6 TH700 for the task, and that the transverse engines used the same transaxle whether 90 degree or 60 degree.
So, I think that's what you need, but don't spend your money based upon my assessment.
You might try the Tranny forum. Can we assume the 3800 is going into your 'Bird

yes you can, either that or its out with the 90 and in with a 96/97 bird. Planning on a turbo 3800 series II in my car and would be great if all i would need is an engine. I was looking at GN engines but for an intercooled setup thats just way too much money.

I'm fuzzy on specifics, but it seems that the V6 TH700's had some things different that kept them from being as strong as the V8 TH700's. But V8 guts will go into a V6 case.
Again, best to inquire on the Tranny forum.
I know a member swapped in a 3800 engine to his 3rd gen, took it out because of emissions certifications problems after a lot of work went into getting it in in the first place. You should be able to find details by searching this forum.

The V6 700R4's have less clutches in there clutch packs. If it will bolt up it will work just take a look at your bell housing and see if it looks the same as the one that goes on the 4L60E. I imagine it will bolt up but don't quote me on that.

less clutch discs and lighter parts internally on the lower HP engine applications yes
and that goes for all the tranny models
not just the 700r4's
good luck
