tpi swap

i've got a 1992 trans am 305tpi 5spd trans, and i wanted to rebuild a 350 bottom end and bolt the tpi stuff on to the 350. and what do i do about the computer, i know i can't just have the computer tuned i have to get a chip made and plug it in, could you give me more info on the whole computer issue and putting the tpi parts on the 350?

You will need a memcal for a 350(I used one for a vette), injectors and knock sensor for a 350 and that should do it. I hope you are not going to reuse the 305 heads. They are good heads, but they will raise your compression ratio a lot. I have done this swap in a 91 Formula and I had no problems.

memcal?? whats a memcal? i would like to use the 305 heads until i got the money for some aluminum heads. how much will the 305 heads raise my compression?

The memcal is the little blue "chip" in the ecm. It holds the program for your setup. They are specific to 305 or 350. I think the 305 will give you something close to 10.5:1. You also need to be careful with cam choice. TPI setups can only handle so much cam without a lot of custom programming.

If you are building a new 350 bottom end, then use the 305 heads. Just choose pistons with having 58cc chambers in mind, instead of 64cc. Not a big deal.

i was thinking about getting one of those custom made chips where i tell the company exactly what i have done and they program the chip specifically for my setup any information on those? or oppinions?
