What is a good swap for me?
I just purchased a 91 Camaro rs for 400 hundred bucks and was expecting to spend 2500. The guy who sold it gave it to me cheap because he needed cash right away and could not wait a month for my paycheck to come in.
I really want to build a sleeper car...I want the RS appearance but a monster under the hood.
What kind of engine would fit in there without to much hassle and furthur more where can i find an engine new or rebuilt?
The car was a automatic V6,3.1 liter.
do i have enough to do this type of project with 2100 or will i need more?

It will be tougher to start off with a V6 car instead of a V8. Most of the parts on your car will need to be replaced. As for the money you have set aside, if you are thrifty and buy used parts and sell the parts you aren't using, you could build a pretty sweet setup. But again, you need to replace a lot of stuff to go from a V6 to V8. Most people just reccommend getting a V8 car to start with.

well how about simply replacing the 305 thats in there with a new or rebuilt one.Is there an aftermarket to squeeze some more ponies out of that engine or this V6 RS pretty much maxed out...
I dont really want a race car but would like if it has some kind of ball power ya know, i really wanted a manual but 400 hundred bucks how could you turn that down?

Exhaust is a big player in performance, and setting aside $750-$1000 of your budget to get that done right is a good start. That only leaves you $1100-$1350 for an engine, which isn't enough to do much. Depending upon what was done for the 305, again.
We need more details before any useful advice can be tendered.

By the way, there isn't any difference between a V6 and V8 "car". It's what goes into them that makes them different. You won't "max out" a V6 body any sooner than a V8 body would be "maxed out".

I could see getting a 350 in there for $2100. I picked up a used 350 pan to carb for $800, from a 1969 Camaro that was built pretty decent. You'll need another transmission, as the v6 tranny won't match to a v8 motor. You'll need fuel pressure regulator and HEI distributor.
You could be thrifty and:
$600 Used running good condition 350
$200 Carb (assuming above had none)
$125 HEI dizzy (brown cap Accell new from Autozone)
$ 90 Mallory 4309 FPR
$400 Used 700R4 Tranny for a V8
$ 90 Torque Converter Lockup Switch
$300 Misc (air cleaner, fluids, carb linkage, motor mounts, etc.)
--------------
$1800
Leaves $300 for unforeseen extras. If all stays in budget, that $300 could be spent on headers or a posi rear end (used 4th gen rear can be had for $300, with disc brakes). This also assumes that a carbed motor is legal in your area on this year car - if not, you'd be better off searching out a TPI car and starting over there. And assumes the used tranny would hold up for a year so you could save for a rebuild lol.

Accept up front that it will cost more than you plan and that it will be a never ending process. Once the engine is done there is the paint, then the interior, suspension, wheels, tires and on and on and on. If it is not true love find another "girl." In my case it has been a love affair with a few wheeled objects and it never ends.

"little at a time"
That's me - I've been into my 1992 for about a year now, and have about $4000 invested total. I still need many things done, and having an anxiety issue doesn't help, makes me at least as impatient as anyone else. But I keep at it, saving here and there, one puzzle piece at a time. It's a neverending project, but one that I enjoy (for the most part lol).
