Engine Swap
I have a 1986 camaro Z28 with a carburated 305. I would like to replace it with a motor that doesn't require a computer. Something that can be dropped in and bolted up and ready to run. Any comments welcome.

The 305 you have doesn't need a computer to run, just stick on a non feedback carb and replace the distributor with a regular HEI. Viola! didn't even have to pull the engine out.

Ooooooooh ok, well then. You can get an Ultra street 595 hp 434 ci that'll drop in from Scott Shafiroff.

My sug. is to go with a nice 350 out of the junkyard. You will probably find plenty of high mileage ones for cheap. Look for any where from 78-93ish makes for simple VERY simple drop in. You will have to a little mod here and there but pair that with a decent cam good carb and some wrench time whala

In Nevada, they dont hook anything up to the computer if its older than 96. They only hook up to OBD II computers. OBD I computers dont give the same info.

The ZZ4 crate engine would pretty much fill that bill and would run off of your current computer, carb, distributor, etc. It might run better with a different computer, but it will run fine with what you've got.
