Engine Swap

I have a 1986 camaro Z28 with a carburated 305. I would like to replace it with a motor that doesn't require a computer. Something that can be dropped in and bolted up and ready to run. Any comments welcome.

The 305 you have doesn't need a computer to run, just stick on a non feedback carb and replace the distributor with a regular HEI. Viola! didn't even have to pull the engine out.

Ooooooooh ok, well then. You can get an Ultra street 595 hp 434 ci that'll drop in from Scott Shafiroff.

Check some local junkyards and find yourself a good 350.

My sug. is to go with a nice 350 out of the junkyard. You will probably find plenty of high mileage ones for cheap. Look for any where from 78-93ish makes for simple VERY simple drop in. You will have to a little mod here and there but pair that with a decent cam good carb and some wrench time whala

If you are in a state that has emission testing it could be a problem if not they usually have no say in it.. alot of cars that are 15-20 years old the computer systems don't work anyway...

In Nevada, they dont hook anything up to the computer if its older than 96. They only hook up to OBD II computers. OBD I computers dont give the same info.

What's wrong with running it with a computer? I can assure you my combo has a lot more power, and it's run by the computer just like the 305 was.

The ZZ4 crate engine would pretty much fill that bill and would run off of your current computer, carb, distributor, etc. It might run better with a different computer, but it will run fine with what you've got.
