350 HO SWAP- Need some experts?
350 HO SWAP- Need some experts?
Ok I own this: 305,TPI, 5 Speed...Flowmaster, single cat....

I wanna drop this in exactly...GM PP carbed 350HO...
Can I keep my 5 speed setup? Will this bolt right up with what I got? Will I need a new exhaust, headers? Anyother things I will need? Will I have any problems clearing the aircleaner with the stock hood?

-You can keep your 5 speed, no problems there.
-What exhaust is on the motor currently? It should bolt up fine as is, but if you have the stock exhaust on, it'd be a good idea to put on headers and a real exhaust, just to bring out the full potential of that motor.

The HO Deluxe is pretty much a turn-key. Drop it in and fire it up. CarCraft introduced a three-part series on the engine in Sept. 04, which led to my purchase. I'd suggest you search out the articles as they're quite interesting. The CarCraft boys, using iron exhaust manifolds, got more than 300 hp from the engine, more, of course, with headers. If you wish to employ headers, a ZZ4 dipstick will be necessary (if not, the dipstick in the HO package will work fine). Here's the exhaust I use: Hooker 2055's (Jeg's 520-2055). Catco high-flow converter (Summit CTO-9118). Hooker catback (Summit HOK-16823HKR). This system is a direct fit; I did, however, have to cut/weld the air pipes on the headers. The hood wouldn't close with the air cleaner that arrived with the engine (perhaps because of the poly motor mounts I'm running). A drop base fixed that problem, though the wing nut does touch the underhood insulation.
The engine comes with a flexplate, so you'll need to swap on your flywheel or purchase a new one. I went with a light-weight GM, which is about half the weight of the standard.
Light weight: 14088646
Standard: 14088650
The roller pilot bearing is recommended for this engine: 14061685
A banjo fitting will be required to hook up the fuel line to carb and to allow the drop base to clear (Jeg's 510-26-25 should do it). Purchase an inline fuel filter.
The throttle bracket from my LG4had to be modded a bit, so you'll have to come up with something there.
If you're interested in retaining your cruise control, check here:

Note the blue and the green wire in the first pic. These must be retained for your back up lights.
Though not essential, I wired up a throttle kicker (bumps up the idle with the A/C is turned on).
If fans are an issue, here's what I did:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/cool...electrics.html
Aside from slightly modding a compressor bracket on my multi-belt system, everything bolted up fine, IIRC. If you have a serp system, the brackets from a 96-98 L31 Chevy or GGMC truck can be used. If so, a reverse rotation water pump will need to be used. The manuel provides those p/n's should you be interested.

James, you started with a carb'd application. He's starting with a TPI system.
Shawn, you're going to have to do something about fuel delivery. Your TPI system has an in-tank electric fuel pump that goes sky-high when dead-headed, which is what will happen if you hook it directly to the carb. You need a return-style fuel pressure regulator such as the Mallory 4309. You may also need to re-do the wiring to the pump.
Have you considered the Scoogin-Dickey Vortec TPI crate engine? They started off trying to put TPI on the 350 HO, ended up designing a pretty good little TPI package. It would cost a lot more, but you're getting a better engine and retaining the advantages of EFI.
