89 camaro RS LT1 Swap
89 camaro RS LT1 Swap
OK, I have been reading over the past couple of days all the GREAT information about doing the LT1 swap. Well I am about to start my project. I just picked up a 89 camaro RS with the 305 TBI in it. I have read about the fuel lines, wiring harness, A/C issues and so on. I have a few questions I know can be answered.
I will be putting in 96 crate LT1 bored .030, with elderbrock preformer heads, and elderborck preformer cam. 1.6 roller rockers, headers and maybe the LT4 intake (if $$$ allows)
ok my questions
1. Once i get the 305 out what should I work on first?
2. Do I need to beef up the suspension for the LT1?
3. I ahve a ECM from an old 97 Z28 will this work for this car....and where can i get it reprogrammed at?
Basicly i want to know once i get the old engine out of the way what should i work on first............. thanks

1. First - do stuff you can't do once the engine is in the engine bay. You need to figure out what you want to do for a/c. The best(least expensive) thing to do would be to take big hammer to the k-member and modify the motor mount. Also, why not get poly-urethane motor mounts while you have the engine out, or at least new motor mounts. It may also be a good idea to replace all the gaskets on the LT1 while you have it out. I don't know if they sell a "gasket kit" for the LT1, check your local o'reillys, advance, auto store. Before you put the headers on, remember to have an O2 bung welded into the other header that doesn't have an O2 bung. Lt1's need 2 O2's.
2. Not really. But beefing up the frame would be a good idea meaning get some sub frame connectors welded in(like from spohn). Also, have your frame checked at a shop that straightens frames, before you install the s.f.c.'s.
3. You can send it through mail to madz28.com. You can buy an aldl cable(I think aldlcables.com sells them or other websites) and then buy an email tune from madz28 and install the tune using your own computer.
The LT4 intake really isn't needed unless you have LT4 heads. They are also going for a lot of money right now since GM quit making them. The real cool intake manifolds are the edelbroak supervic single plane intake manifolds that are converted to work on LT1s. A guy over at cz28.com makes them, Bret is his name I think. That intake is not cheap.

I have decided to get the A/C re loc brackets (got to keep AC) Therefore that should take care oof that issue. Now for the fuel lines. From what I understand after reading about this issue is I have to change the pump, lines and regulator......I read many differant ways to do it, but seeing that Im starting from scratch, any parts list would be great and what is the best place to get the lines? this is one excellent site I dont think i could do this swap without reading all the info I have read
Keep it going and I will post all my info as well....
I have elderbrock preformer head will an LT4 work with those heads.......

If your car was fuel injected(TBI, V6 Fuel injected, TPI), all you need to change or get is fuel lines. Thirdgen.org Z28***** sells the lines. You could also get a local shop like maybe NAPA to make you some lines. Could also see what the LT1 intake swappers are doing. Could also take the plastic hardlines off of the donor car, put them over your hardlines, then take a heat gun to them, heatshrinking them on.
Gen I heads will not fit without a lot of modification. LT1(Gen II) heads are reversed cooled, etc.

ok, item 1 that I need...the electronic spark control module(the one thats near the driverside hood hindge)
Item 2 would be the engine wiring harness( the one I have has been cut and spliced a few times...and may be giving me fits)
and Item 3 would be the ecm itself...(I 'm prettty sure mine works...but it would be nice to have another on hand)...
also any other sensors you'd be throwing away(did'nt need) could be tossed in.
my zip is 47546...let me know what you would want for this shipped

Ok, great....the main thing that will help me the most is the"uncut" engine wiring harness(the dude cut mine off at the driversside firewall) and next is tha escm Electronic Spark Control Module(the flat pancake looking module on the driverside fender(it should be attached to the harness).....and the ecm....How about $75...+whatever shipping is shipping is????
also any other sensor thats on the harness you don't need would help me in trouble shooting(swaping) to get this F-body back on the road...thanx
