need help picking a cam

i have all the parts i need except for a cam so im trying to see what i should go with. this is my daily driver but lope is fine with me. Im running a rebuilt 350 with a set of ported 305 vortec heads, performer rpm intake, 600cfm edelbrock performer, 700r4 with all the goodies,10' 3500stall verter headman lt headers with a custom ypipe hooked to a 3" catback and a 3.42 posi rear from a 4th gen. need to keep the lift under .520 as thats about the limit before my retainers crash into my valvestem seals. its a hyd roller setup oh yea and its about 11:1 cr.

sorry forgot to mention 100shot of good ol american n2o

That's a heap of stall, which will require more cam to keep from weezing out the upper RPMs.

That said, XR276, aka Comp p/n 08-423-8.

And dump the Performer carb. Get a real one.

i was looking at comp cams 12-415-8
it looks to be the close to the same profile except the ex lift and duration are higher lift is .520 dur 236 and its got a 113lsa instead of 110. its one of thier nitrous hp cams. do you think it would work better for my setup?

The one I listed is factory roller style. The one you listed is retrofit roller style.

The one you listed would work fine. You'll just need the a cam button (and Summit says a wear plate). It's kind of a mixed bag - the one I listed should be more street friendly, but has a tighter LSA. Yours has a higher RPM powerband but more LSA. If nitrous operation is the primary consideration, get the cam you listed - gotta get those exhaust gases out for max power. If nitrous is more rare, then you'd probably be happier on the street with the XR276.

BTW, if you have .520" lift, you'd better have at least .560" travel on the valve before the retainer contacts the stem seal.

nitrous wont be very often just when i go to the track and even then im only gonna use it when we have an fbody shoot out. where can i find more info on cams? specifically i was wondering about lsa i thought the higher the lsa the better for the street it was because of less overlap???

Transmission: Sometimes

Better to KNOW how it REALLY works, than rely on "I thought"... engines are notoriously insensitive to their owners' thoughts, and instead behave based entirely on physical principles.

the facts

as far as the nitrous goes dont worry as much about setting the cam up for it since its not the primary use.. as far as your lsa goes its all about working with inertia supercharging.. basicaly the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time for a brief period of time.. how it works is as the exhaust gasses leave the cyl they pull in the fresh air and fuel some cams also keep the valve open long enough to pull some axhaust gasses back in as this aids in keeping the engine running cooler.. i have a lsa of 112 on my daily driver.. 110 is the absolute lowest you can go with vacuum boosted brakes a/c stalls my 112 out but its a nice bargain between power and drivability

i was reading up on that problem with the a/c stalling the engine. i found a kit that will raise idle speed on carbed motors when the a/c kicks on. it may just be for edelbrocks though. it was in a summit mag.
