Just Got LT1!!

Hey guys I am new to the forum here, I think this site is great.I just bought a 93 Z28 with an lt1 and automatic, the body isn't that great so i'm gonna take it out and put it in my 87 RS (v6 auto), Will i be able to take everything i need from the donor car, to make my car run? I also planned on taking the rearend, since in is a little stronger. I also had plans to replace the 700, with my own built Th350. Will that be a problem? Thanks in advance.

Welcome!

The 93 is kind of different. Speed-density(no maf), prom computer.

Start reading LT1 info here: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...questions.html

You're going to need to do everything for swapping from v6 to v8(suspension,etc.) Then if your V6 was carbed, you'll have to convert the car to fuel injection by replacing the entire fuel lines all the way to the tank, get a sending unit for fuel injection, and get a fuel pump put in the sending unit in the gas tank. No, you will need additional parts to get the LT1 running. The 4th gen rear sticks out 2 inches further on each side which means 3rd gen tires will stick out 2 inches too far. Simple fix - put on 4th gen wheels on the rear and get 2" apapters for the front 4th gen wheels. TH350 shouldn't be a problem.

'87 should be a FI V6 so you're good there, drop the tank and put in a 255 Walbro since you're going to swap the rear out. The 4th gen rears are the exact same as the 3rd gen except the 2" longer that Firebat mentioned, plus your V6 car will have 3.42's the '93 will probably have either 2.73 or 3.08 gears, it may have a 3.23 as well so best bet is put a posi unit in the 3rd gen rear. Turbo350 won't be a problem, but to get the speedo to work, you'll have to find out a way to rig up a VSS for the tranny. Best thing to also do is ditch the ECM and Wiring harness and buy a '95 model PCM and Harness, put a MAF on the car so you get the capability to flash the PCM instead of having to have chips burned for it, you get alot of flexability going that route.

'93's were also batch fire injectors like the '91-'92 L98's, Starting in '94 they went to sequential fire injectors which picked up a bit of performance and power.

So would i be better keeping my rearend or swapping it out. I plan on using the car for track use mostly so i was gonna go with 4.10's or something around there, I just didn't know if the 93 rearend was stronger? I had plans of aftermarket rims anyway so if gives the car a better stance that would be great. The V6 is FI, so can i use those fuel lines or can i take them from the 93? Thank s you

I was talking about the fuel lines that go to the tank. You will still need fuel lines to go to the hard fuel lines to the LT1 fuel rail.

The 93 rear end isn't significantly stronger than the one already under your car. Your V6 rear has had less abuse unless it has a lot more miles on it then the '93. It probably has a better gear ratio for performance. The only advantage on the '93 axle is disk brakes.

I swapped a from a fuel injected V6 to a '95 LT1. I used Pure Choice adapters to the fuel rail and ran braided stainless back to the tank. Pure Choice supplies a kit to connect from your existing hard lines to the LT1 fuel rail as well for the easy fix. I did install a Granitelli fuel pump.

Other stuff that didn't come from my donor car or the original: V8 Third Gen engine brackets, Shorty headers (SLP) with extra 02 bung and Y-pipe for a Third Gen V8, high-flow cat, cat-back exhaust, power steering lines (Aeroquip high pressure braided stainless w/steel fittings), plate to adapt 4th Gen radiator upper bracket to car and I made a throttle cable that's half from each car.

SLP Headers are a waste of money IMHO. Hedman makes a set of d-port headers designed for the angle plug heads which work out great, and have them both in long tube and mid length. PS lines are easy to make since you can actually use an Impala or Caprice line that goes under the oil pan. Throttle cable you can use a '91-92 TPI cable and works great. I'm running a 4th gen radiator and a/c condensor in the car as well, cut down the 4th gen radiator support and used the original bolt holes in the 3rd gen sheetmetal. 4.10's may be a tad much for the motor, I would probably stick with 3.73's especially if you're going to use a TH350 instead of the 4L60 that came with the car. 4th gen rears, 7.5 10 bolt, 3rd gen rears 7.5 10 bolt, you can actually bolt a carrier from a 4th gen rear into a 3rd gen rear with no problems plus you will have to swap out the lines and hardware for the disc brakes. I'm running 3.70's in a stock 9 bolt in my GTA with the 6-speed and it pulls plenty hard, if I had 4.10's in the car I would end up having to goto 4th before crossing the line in the 1/8th and maybe wound out in the 1/4

I went with the SLP's to get full 1 3/4" primaries and a 3" collector without the necked down area. Fully agree with everything else you said.

1 3/4 primaries are a waste since the ports on the heads are 1 5/8 unless you hog out the ports on the heads to mate up, then you have the d-port to contend with instead of it matching up d-port to oval. My Hedmans are 1 5/8 to 3" collectors. AFAIK the SLP's are not designed for the angle plug heads also which makes changing out plugs a PITA.
