is this deal good to buy???
hello again everyone . i just came across to what seems to me a good deal.
lets see what you all think
first off let me say the whole swap comes from a reliable source. this guy used to work with me until he quit.
but enough of that
he had a 1989 gta trans am or something like that.
the swap hes selling is the 350 tpi with engine harness and ecu and trans.
he says the heads were rebuilt. they are iron heads instead of aluminum
the trans is a 700r4 trans. he says he put a corvette torque converter on it and it has racing clutches.
the trans has about 1k miles
and the heads about 700 miles on it.
now .
what would i need to drop this swap into my 87 berlinetta????
the swap would cost me 1,000$ and like i said again its from a reliable source so i know he deals with good parts and things of that matter.
i just want to know your imput on this because i just started on this domestic view of sport/muscle cars.
i drive a civic as well
anyway let me know what i need to drop that 350 in my car and ill ask if he has everything that you guys mention i may need
thanks in advanced

The more parts he has from the original set-up to give you in the deal the easier the swap will be for you. If the Engine, Tranny and harness all came from the same source that is a good start !!!
The fact is that this engine / tranny set-up was made to fit inside an F-Body engine bay. There's no need for any "extraordinary" measures in order to make the stuff bolt in place. If your car ( which is NOT an 87 Berlinetta ! ) is a V8 than you are even further along than many of the engine swaps I read about on the web.
If your car was originally a V6 than plan on upgrading the suspension for the V8 before you install the motor. That way you can swap engine mounts when installing the V8 front springs. Also be sure to get the firewall wiring connector wiring diagram from your EXACT year make model car as well as the Donor car. That way you will learn about any wiring differences in advance of the project. ( The wiper system wiring will need to be spliced for example )
P.S. Be sure to write us a report on the feeling of REAR WHEEL power when your project is finished !!!!!!!!!!!!

The Berlinetta was only made until 86. If your car is an 87 than it's not a Berlinetta. If your car has a digital dash than it's not an 87. ( unless someone swapped the interior into it !!! )
Take a look at the VIN...... the 5th letter will be an 'S" if it's a Berlinetta or "P" for any other Camaro.

i would be a little hesitant on the iron replacement heads. the TPI motors had pretty good stock aluminum heads and if they were replaced with "rebuilds" they are quite possibly inferior to the stock heads and hurting performance. just my

All 3rd gen TPI engines had iron heads. Only 86-1/2 & up Vette TPI engines got aluminum heads.
The 083 iron heads are just as good as the aluminum heads as far as power. The aluminum are slightly lighter, of course, but not superior in any other way.
