305 to 350
Hows it goin everybody? I've got a few questions i was hoping some of you out there would be able 2 help me out with. I just recently took my 305 out of my 84 camaro z28 to replace with a 350 small block from a 75 corvette stingray. Ive been looking at the two trying 2 figure out what parts i can swap over and reuse on my 350 but there doesnt seem to be to much to work with. Now if im correct i believe the 305's had three different belts 2 drive the motor and powersteering etc. My plans are to have the 350 rebuilt bored out ( not sure how big a bore yet) and get new heads aftermarket pistons rings etc... all the goodies. so any advice or anyone that knows what parts i could reuse would be greatly appreciated.
thanks again

If you're going to rebuild the 350, do the smart thing and put your 305 heads on it. Believe it or not, your lo-po 305 heads are better than those "Stingray" heads. You'll need to use dished pistons in the 305 to keep compression down to a reasonable level, but that's not big deal (and actually better for power). While you're at it, have the shop machine the 305 heads for 1.94" intake valves, and put in new valve springs and retainers when they go back together. Having the rockers studs pinned or replaced with screw-in is also a very good idea while the shop has them. An aftermarket cam such as a Comp XE262 or XE268 will really wake up the engine. You should also figure on complete exhaust replacement, in order to get the most out of it. All of this and your original 305 accessories, intake manifold, and carb will all work just fine with it (but not the LG4 air cleaner - that has to go).
How much will all this cost? Probably a couple-three grand. Got that kind of a budget?
A 13-sec (at sea level) daily driver ain't a bad pay-back.
