305 to 350

I have been getting mixed stories on what I can and can’t do here...
I have an 85 Iroc with a 305 tpi.
I can get my hands on a 350 block that has been machined, (still finding out the specs)
But I want to use my 12-264-4 comp cam, roller rockers, my tpi set up.
I would like to use my 305 heads as well, and possibly my push rods.
So, this is where the mixed stories come in to play. I have been told that I can’t use the 305 heads since the chamber is smaller. I always thought a 350 block with 305 heads created a 327.
but ive been told i could use the heads but will kill the power since im TPI ( everyone seems to be against TPI.. My first TPI and I really like it)
I only have so much money for this project. (About $500) the only reason I was even thinking about switching to a 350 is because I have to pull the motor anyways to replace the leaking oil pan gasket, and I figured I would change out all the lower end gaskets, bearing, oil pump, etc. while it was out.
I also just thought about just totally overhauling the 305 and leaving it a 305 but I can only be down a minimal about of time, it’s my daily driver. Going 350 I could build most of the lower end on a stand and then just swapper over the other when the engine is out and place the 350 back in all in a good solid weekend. So my question in a nut shell would be.
Could I use my 305 heads on a 350? and how about injectors if so? i have the stock 18#'s (alot of things like injectors, distro, ignition coil, etc... i plan on changing later in time once i have enough to do it all and DYNO tune a chip for it)
AND does anyone know of a place to get a decent inexpensive 350 master overhaul kit?
Or should I look for a FAST machine shop and a few local guys and do a wrench party and be down a few extra days...
Again does anyone know of a place to get a decent inexpensive 305 master overhaul kit?

please dont point me to other theads to read... i have read so much in the past 2-3 days my head is about to exploded..... i'm just looking for GOOD advice and striaght answers. and place to puchace what i need for a group of great people that have been around the block.

First off, 350 block and 305 heads makes a high compression 350 not a 327. Bore and stroke equal displacement. As far as the pushrods, that will be determined later in the build. 500 dollars is a non existant build budget, it wont make it a 1/4 of the way.

Re: 305 to 350

If the engine is running good and you want to keep the tpi, you should just change out the pan gasket and be done with it. I have seen people do this without pulling the engine. Unless you're dead set on doing a swap, I would probably do that. Sort of the old if it ain't broke don't fix it thing.

I wouldn't go into the project with a $500 budget. Be honest about how much you have and how much you can spend. If that means waiting, its probably the right descison.

Re: 305 to 350

yeah it can be done for 500 bucks but not quickly or easily, yes 305 heads fit a 350 and everything else for that matter except the pistons. i know the oil pan can be changed with the motor in the car but you'll have to search on how, i think you unbolt the motor mounts and jack the motor up untill the trans hits the tunnel and have at it.

i would sugest build up the 305 instead of swaping or save up some more money first
