a 350 will bolt right up in place of a 305, as long as your sticking with the same acessories and carb or fule injection setup.

No, you'll leave the carb that comes with the engine on it, and leave your TBI in the trash on your way out.

Simple, fast, cheap.
Dinking around with burning chips and whatnot is a big hassle. Leave it be. Use the carb. Your uncle can always help you tune that if it needs it, but since it's already been raced, and hopefully tuned it should be fine.

Figure out what exhaust you'll be using and how you're going to connect it all up.

Get a carb air cleaner setup if the motor doesn't come with one.

I'm assuming the motor is turn key?

You'll need to figure out your fuel supply. Probably drop the tank and remove the in tank pump, then use a return style mech pump on the block.

Re: changed my mind on 305

ok that sounds good enough but what about other electronics such as inside things heat temp all gages. and tell me more about this different fuel system. i imagine they used high pressure to pump gas and yes i beleive it is turn key. i was told the engine is ready to go. i thought it would be easier to put in the motor, swap tbi, basically plug it all in and go. the chip swap shouldnt be that bad any 350 comp. chip will do wouldnt it?

Re: changed my mind on 305

the tbi uses an in tank electric fule pump, for a carbed motor just get a mechanical pump to run on the block, and basicly all your stuff will connect up to the new motor, well at least everything you need. and chips are a pain in the butt since not everybody knows how to burn them, if the motor is already carbed and tuned just stick it in and go.

Re: changed my mind on 305

Gauges:
- Oil pressure should be next to the distributor, I'm pretty sure it's the same hookup and everything. Use the pressure sending unit from your 305, that way 30psi will still be 30psi sorta thing.

- Coolant temp - guage in the drivers side head. Again, use the one off your 305, there are a few different styles, and your connector and calibration may not be the same. Using the old one from your 305 is probably most fool proof to have your gauge work right.

- Fuel level - no change.

- Voltage, no change.

- Tach, no change. The distributor will be wired a tiny bit differently, so one of the plugs going from your ECM to distributor will no longer be needed. Other than that, no difference. Other plug should be the same.

Not sure what alternator and accessories you wanted to use. If the carbed motor uses V belts, you'll need to use the v-belt accessories that come with that motor. You can, and it might be a good idea to, just use all the front end accessories from your 305 TBI motor. Ie, reverse rotation water pump, serpentine alternator, serpentine power steering pump etc. I'm assuming all your accessories on your TBI motor are good, if not you can replace any that are leaking or suspect. ($40 water pump while you're there eh?)

Mech fuel pump requires you to drop the fuel tank and remove the in tank pump, and replace it with a normal hook up (no pump). It's either that, or use a regulator. Your call, i'd rather use the mech pump.

Do a fair bit of homework right now to decide if you want to use your TBI. You'd need an upgraded TBI unit (more flow), probably bigger injectors, totally different programming, along with the fact you'd need the equipment and patience to tune your chips as you go. I wouldn't do that, but that's just me.
