305 build..lots of questions

new to thirdgen and would enjoy the wisdom of my felllow readers and builders. I have an 89 rs with a 305 tbi. f body bla bla manual tranny everything stock except for no cat and plugged that vac line from throttle body to air cleaner. everyone told me to swap motors and put a 350 or bigger but i dont want to. i wanna stick with my engine and put all easy bolt ons. i heard a good cold air intake system along with removal of smog junk, headers and good exhaust will increase my performance greatly. also with some tbi mods and bigger injectors possibly better inginition. any help would be considered honored. PLEASE..no engine swap advice unless really important thank you very very much.

Re: 305 build..lots of questions

Welcome aboard, The cold air, ram air made the most difference for me over any other mod ive done......Dont know what gear you have, but a 3.23, 3.42, and a posi will work wonders..Big exhaust.....It is hard to do alot with just bolt ons...I have just about all the bolt ons, and free mods that can be done without cracking into the engine....I would for sure work on the suspension...There is alot to improve on these old wore out cars.....I have went from hi 16's to low 15's with just boltons...The car is ALOT more fun to drive now also....Handles good, looks good, and runs ok.....I think I will be able to get into the 14's without cracking the motor.......Good luck, have fun, and if ya got any questions feel free to PM me............Tom

Re: 305 build..lots of questions

there is a guy on here with a white rs that looks like a sc, he runs mid 12's with his, but i think he has major motor work done, Anyway to answer u? start basic mods that u could use with any motor like- headers, exhaust, hot ignition, gears, susp. dont worry about injectors unless youre doing a major hp increase mod like a supercharger or cam. after the mods i mentioned youre car will be a blast to drive after that start thinking about ripping the motor apart if u want.

That is mw66nova you are talking about. The only thing stock on his 305 is the block and he runs low 12s. 400 for a fresh race motor? Dosent sound right, it probly has something wrong with it.
