305tbi to 383tbi
i have a 91 rs with the rocket 305tbi 5speed. i found this motor on eaby
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVY...00696203QQrdZ1
and i started to think it might be a good idea for me to do a swap. i would end up just swaping my old stuff on to this motor and droping it in. time it and go. what do you guys think? or am i missing something?
my car only has 73k on it and runs good but im looking for a lil bit more power. in hope of making the car more fun to drive.
here are some pics of the car when i bought it

Re: 305tbi to 383tbi
Since it says "TBI" in the item title, it probably has TBI heads.
Pass.
Or, get them to put TPI heads on it, instead.

I see that. Doesn't matter.
If you're going to spend money, DON'T get TBI heads. Get TPI ones.

Or ask them to include the dyno sheet showing 350HP out of it. That'd be interesting to see. If they say "it should have 350HP", and it still has the TBI heads - pass.

Re: 305tbi to 383tbi
Yeah that motor might push 350hp, but definately not with a 305tbi intake and throttle body
So pretty much if you did the swap you would need to buy a new intake and throtte body to come close to that 350hp

Re: 305tbi to 383tbi
If your going to spend that much money on the engine, why not just have your local performance shop build you an engine. I agree with sofakingdom, tpi heads wold be better than the stock tbi heads. Ask them the specs for the. I'm running a 350, vortec heads, LT 4 hotcam and vortec airgap manifold. My engine from top to bottom cost less than the one you wish to buy from Ebay.
I see you have a 5 speed with your car. You will probably have to upgrade your tranny to handle the HP.

Check the TBI forum stickies for the one about the budget 350. Ditto everything it says if going 383.
The Edelbrock TBI intake is better than the stock 305 (or even 350) manifold, but ...
Well, just read the sticky.
