New engine overheating?

Need some help...
I have an '82 TA & replaced the 305 with a 350 carb. After driving it for a little while today my radiator coolant overflow started to boil like a tea kettle! My mechanic thinks I may need another fan as the one I have on my engine now was from the 305. It's manual fan. Any ideas why this is happening?

Re: New engine overheating?

Be really careful with your timing.

Don't you have a temp gauge? What was it reading and for how long?

Re: New engine overheating?

Before I brought my car in for a new engine install the temp gauge was working fine, now after the new engine got put in the temp gauge got disconnected somewhere along the way. So now it's not working at all? What's the ideal thermostat temp that I shoud have for my car? I've heard 140, 160?

Re: New engine overheating?

Check the air dam under the car first. If it is gone, your car is sure to overheat. Next check your thermostat, is it new with the new engine?

Re: New engine overheating?

It happends alot when people swap a stock 305 to a mild 350. The higher hp motor needs more for it to cool right. Making the air dam more important.

Re: New engine overheating?

I agree with KrisW, check your timing. Check your radiator and make sure the fins are clean and no debries on the front.
