Break in is a pretty subjective topic. GM has a recommended procedure that involve easy driving for 50 miles, then mild acceleration to about 50 MPH, slowing down, repeated 10 times, then moderate acceleration repeated 10 times, then oil change. How much difference does it make? Probably not a lot. The most important part is to use petroleum-based oil during the period, not abuse it, and drain the oil after cam break-in (hopefully that has already been done) and after about 500 miles.
Re-adjusting hydraulic lifters is pretty much an exercise in over-caution. Basically you loosen the rocker, re-tighten it until all "lash" is gone, then tighten 1/2 turn more. You can either do this while the lifter is on the "heal" of the lobe, or while the engine is idling.
