looking at a 87 bird with a olds 307 swapped in with a 200r4 or whatever 4spd
It looks like it's bolted in there ok but have never seen an olds engine in a 3rd gen...anyone know of any others?
It appears to be a 85-88 engine (has the tubular manifolds...maybe a roller cutlass engine?)
idk, just wondering...(I'm prob gonna buy it as a parts car)

Re: Olds 307
I put an olds engine in one once.
Take some pictures before you part it out! I didn't do stuff like that back then. Especially get a shot of where the valve covers sit next to (or inside of) the heater/AC box...
Does it run? Where is it at?

Re: Olds 307
the car is a ghetto piece of ****...it's an electrical nightmare...
the engine is a 85-88 olds i believe...so cutlass most likely...140hp dawg lol
some bastard probably swapped a V6 for the 307 to gain tq only lol...but yea, you cant really beef up a 307 because they are already pretty much maxed out performance wise from the factory

Re: Olds 307
Long-Tube Headers, 3" single exhaust, Ported the 7A swirl port heads (oversize 1.875"/1.50" valves), Harland Sharp 1.6:1 full roller rockers, Mondello Olds Hydraulic Roller JM 16-18 camshaft (256/260 @ .006, .472/.488" lift, 112 LSA), port matched intake, modified the Q-Jet to fully open as necessary (DR Rods, F-hanger, adjusted the primary side to my liking) and bumped the base timing about 3*. I put a 14x3" open element air cleaner in it, but ditched the 3" tall filter for a 5" tall truck filter. I swapped the torque converter for a higher stall unit from a 1986 Fleetwood with a 4.1 TBI. The governor came from the same transmission and bumped the upshifts from 3,800 up to 5,000 rpm.
After the modifications, it felt like it had another engine under the hood. I had it at the track, 1 time, still had the stock peg-leg 2.73 gears in the rear and Goodyear Eagle P235/65/R15 tires on it.
At a hefty 4,638 lbs, it ran the following
RT .534
0060' = 02.62s
0330' = 06.84s @ 57.98
0660' = 10.23s @ 69.73
1000' = 13.22s @ 82.47
1320' = 15.76s @ 90.48
I later installed a 3.42 posi gear set from a 1990 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1.
RT .534
0060' = 02.49s
0330' = 06.66s @ 56.49
0660' = 10.08s @ 71.93
1000' = 13.09s @ 81.72
1320' = 15.54s @ 92.48

Re: Olds 307
I got all my info from 442.com faq...
But it sounded like for the most part, the actual 307 engine (not bolt ons) was already a "hot-rodded" engine from the factory, sure if you replace everything then it will make a difference, but from what it sounds you would indeed have to replace everything to see the full benefits...

Re: Olds 307
LOL, I know exactly what you are talking about. Stock my 307 9 Vin was gutless, noticed the secondaries would not open. Found the linkage would not allow it to open the throttle fully. I removed the plastic block under teh accelerator pedal. Took it for a drive, the secondaries opened up, the engine fell flat on its face and let out a monsterous backfire. Started searching more and found the little cam that lifts the secondary hanger was MIA. Thats right, it shipped from GM without.
ALOT of the Caddys had the 9 vin engine with the neutered Q-Jet in it, giving a grand total of the advertised 140 HP/255 TQ of the Y vin engine.
