3.1 V6 MPFI to 5.0 V8 TBI
Hello Guys,
I want to swap my 92' V6 to a V8 TBI from an 91' Firebird V6. Which things do I need? I have the engine, the ECM, the complete engine harness, the instrument gauges (speedometer, tachometer) and a new transmission on my list.
Will the 3.1 MPFI fuel pump work with the TBI?
Thanks a lot,
Marcel

You'll need exhaust and the engine mounts from the V8 car. The radiators should be the same. The V6 fuel pump should be fine.
Oh, the V8 hoses, belts, throttle cables, fuel lines (only from the frame to the engine), air cleaner.

fuel pump is fine but you will need to reduce pressure from 44PSI down to 14PSI.

You will also need coil springs for a V-8 F-Body.

Hey guys,
thanks a lot! I am very happy that the fuel pump and the radiator are ok for this engine...
I've got another offer last week, now I am confused what I should do. I could get a 350 cid block completed with headers, Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley carb. Casting numbers were 3970010 for the block and 333882 C87 GM40 for the cylinder heads. The engine runs (not fine, but it runs
) and is still mounted in an 86' Firebird V8.
Any suggestions?
As I understand, after a swap to carb I could remove all the ECM stuff, but what's about my speedometer, tachometer, cruise control, etc.?
Thanks a lot, guys!

Block is okay, heads are junk.
Whether you can eliminate the ECM depends upon emissions laws you have to observe.

not sure what emissions regulations you have to follow in Germany. Trending Topics

Hey guys,
thanks a lot. Please forget everything I said about the last offer (350 cid block). I will go with the TBI, but there is a problem, no good engine is for sale these days.
The only offer I got is from an G20 van. It's a 350 cid engine with TBI - is this recommend and will this engine also work in the F-Body? If yes, what thinks do I need? 350 engine, 305 harness, 350 ECM and chip (and the other things mentioned above, of course)?
I don't know how hard the emissions regulations in Germany are compared to the one in the US, but I want to keep it looking original in the engine bay. Of course, there must be a catalytic converter, too.
Thanks a lot,
Marcel

you could take the engine from the van and just swap the longblock, then you would have the 350 and nobody would know unless they dug really deep to find the casting numbers.

Hello,
so the 350 would work with the stock TBI stuff? I will keep that in mind.
I got a lot of offers this days, but there is no TBI out there...
Another plan is to buy the LG4 block and mount the TBI intake, TBI unit and use the TBI ECM and engines harness - thios should be a direct swap, I am right?
Thanks a lot, and I am sorry about the confusion... good V8's are rare here in Germany...
