Any '98-'02 f-body LS1 will do. I'd recommend you go with the 4L60E transmission that comes with an LS1, rather than keep the TH700. The 4L60E is basically an electronically controlled TH700 with some upgrades.

LS1/4L60E combos go for less money than LS1/T56 combos, from what I've seen.

Re: LS engine to replace a 305 TPI

the 4l60e came with the ls1 so its fine.

you will need aftermarket motor mounts for the ls1, im not sure about the crossmember, the exhaust from the header/manifolds would have to be fabricated to match up with the stock cat-back.

subframe connectors are a must for any f-body.

Re: LS engine to replace a 305 TPI

Gas tank, can be reused, but the pump is not likely to last for too long. I am doing the LS1 swap and put a 99 tank in it, that way I have the larger capacity, internal baffeling, new(er) pump and less weight. You will have to mess with the wiring a little I think (my dad is doing the wiring), and this thread should get you most of the way for making the gauge work correctly https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...ml#post3439352
