I am so confused

My '91 Z28 (305 TPI) currently has less pick up than my 03 Odyssey (ok we could leave the jokes out about the mini-van).

I was talking with a good friend of mine who co-owns a speed shop and he wants to swap out the engine and put in a 350+ TPI (all new).

Your thinking what is the problem?

The reason I bought this car was because all numbers matched and the engine was not modified any. For our cars does it really matter is the numbers match. I do show the car and do not want to be placed into the modified pool...

BTW: Does any one know what can be causing the car to have such crappy pick up...

Re: I am so confused

Your 305 must have something wrong. The 350s are faster, but a good 305 TPI won't be that far off of the 350 to make you compare it to a minivan. I have a 88 305 TPI with only headers and a shift kit and it's pretty quick. Probably quicker for the first 60 feet than my LT1 Firebird. However, my 305 has the 3.23 rear and my LT1 has the 2.73 rear. It won't be long before the LT1 is upgraded with 3.73 gears though. I would put my 305 with the G80 posi rear up against a L98 350 without the good gears The 350 may still out run the 305, but not by enough to call the 305 a minivan

The 305 with good gears makes the extra 10hp/30tq that the L98 has less noticeable. An engine swap for a small gain is tough. If your going to do all the work, might as well spend some extra $$ and do some upgrades.

If your engine runs good and doesn't throw any codes, then maybe it's something in the tranny.

Re: I am so confused

Thanks I am going to hook it up to the computer tomorrow and see what happens.

BTW I was getting the whole job done for $2000. Probably use that for a new posi rear and what ever we discover is the problem tomorrow.
