I am about to buy a LT1 to replace my L03. I know I need the harness and ecu. Is there anything else I would need? I have heard of problems with ac. Is there any way around this? I just want to make sure I get all the parts I need the first time. Lastly are there any other problems I might face?
Thanks

Did you read the LT1 sticky in the top section of this forum?
i just did. It was very helpful, but I have some more questions that I'm sure all of you can answer. Im new to engine swapping.. I finally decided the L03 wasn't worth modding. The first qutestion is.. the LT1 I'm getting is from a Roadmaster. Is this version of the LT1 worth it, or should I look for a L98. This is the only LT1 I can find that I can afford. If it is worth it, what do I do about the Acc.?
Thanks

The AC compressor sits low and will hit the stock 3rd gen crossmember. The solutions people have used are: bang on the crossmember with a big hammer until the compressor clears; notch the crossmember by cutting out a chunk, flipping it over, and welding it back in ("boxing" the notch); an aftermarket tubular k-member that doesn't come close to the compressor.
Some people like the iron Roadmaster/Caprice LT1 heads better. The cam is less aggressive than f- or y-body LT1's, so the power isn't quite as high. Apparently they have the same power potential, you'll just pay a slight weight penalty for the iron heads.

a few more questions
first, Could you tell me why some people like the cast iron heads?
Second, don't shoot me, but I do plan on using my WC T5. Why do people say to use the 305 flywheel?
Lastly, In the guide do I follow the installment of the F-body Lt1 for my Roadmaster LT1?
Thanks again

People say to use the 305 flywheel because thirdgens never came factory with a 350 and manual trans.
You can get the T5 setup to bolt up, however the VSS pulse issue comes into play, there are hackjob ways to get the correct signal using a T5, but I have yet to see one that I would use IMO....
Some people like the iron heads cause they flow more out of the box.

is the roadmaster LT1 really an LT1 or is it and L99, the same 4.3l 265cid engine used in caprice's? Or is it the 5.7l LT1?

It can be either one, so you need to watch what you're getting.

can you tell just by looking at em? I mean are there external differences you can see or do you have to go by casting number?
Supreme Member
Its cast right into the block by the casting numbers, the block will flat out read 4.3 or 5.7
Can't you tell its a LT1 by the VIN P?
