305 to 383

I'd like to convert my 305 TBI to a 383 stroker. Any suggestions on the cost that would run me?

The cost of a 383 and the cost of yanking your 305 out and installing the 383. You can't make your 305 into a 383.

Re: 305 to 383

Just in parts right now Im in for almost 2000.00. Looks like machine work is going to run me another 800.00.

The parts I bought so far includes crank, rods, pistons, cam, lifters, rockers, intake, and carb. I still need to purchase distributer, ingnition setup, t-56 setup, and get some metal for makeing my brackets for the ford 9".

First car Ive done since my 87 iroc back in 95.

Could just buy a crate engine from chevrolet. Their 383 is a pretty reasonable price I think. By the time I have it all sorted out I'm sure Ill have a little over what gm is asking for there 383 crate engine.

Re: 305 to 383

Im building a 383 right now..its almost done..the motor dynoed 489 at the crank on 93 octane. I have almost $5000 in it..and I got my Brodix heads, and block free..and a lot of little stuff like gear drive, pushrods and stuff..brand new..but its being built at a race shop in OK. But you dont have to put forged bottom end..and a nasty nasty cam like I am eather..but its not ganan be cheap..

Re: 305 to 383

i just built a 383 stroker for my car and all parts and machine workin i spent almost $4,000 in it. it all depends on what kind of performance you are looking for out of the engine. if you are just wanting a mild 383 you can go stock parts. if you are wanting to go a little more you can get performance stroker kits that come with the crank, rods, pistons, rings etc. and make it a little stronger and build it a little more. it just all depends on what you are expecting from the engine. i went through coast high performance for my 383 stroker kit.

Re: 305 to 383

I'm going thru the transplant now...and I couldnt find the motor I wanted for the money I had. So I just bought a complete car with a GMZZ383/stealth ram with less than 2k miles on it for 6k. Car is in excellant condition, already sold the roller, my tpi 305 and my old 700R4 for 2k. 4k plus $500 in misc parts is what I am into it for so far. This is a pic of my car so far https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...ml#post3571329
