cam shaft for my 383 stroker swap

I am looking for a cam for good performance in a 383 stroker that I am putting in a 87 IROC. Just flat tappet not hyd rollers. The block is totally rebuilt. It has cast iron 202 heads with angle ports. High performance valves, springs, crane 1.5 rockers, and I want to stay with TPI and port it and put in high flow runners. I will be driving street mainly. I would like to put nitro in, in the future. I am going to upgrade the rear end and put a t56 or Richmond transmission in so feel free to pick a cam that has some power. I pulled a Crane cam out of it that the grind number was 280 H and the lifters were concaved in on the bottom and the lobes worn off. Everything else on the motor (cam bearings ect..) was great (it is a 4 bolt). Had 5000 miles on it since the last rebuild and the guy I got it from had the vaccum on the carburetor hooked up wrong and the motor was running in full advance from the moment you turned the key! It is dirty (lots of carbon) but once you help me pick a cam and lifers and I degrease and put gaskets in it it will be good to go for another 100,000 miles . So what cam should I get? And is it realistic to stick with TPI on a high performance cam?

It's realistic, as long as the cam is of a type that TPI can tolerate.

A Comp XE268 would be one such cam. A little smaller than what was in it, but you'll need significant TPI upgrades to handle much more.

(280 H sounds like a Comp Magnum grind designation. Are you sure it was a Crane?)

Re: cam shaft for my 383 stroker swap

Crane said it was there when I checked with them it was a pretty radical cam. I looked it up with a tech on the site.

So I could put that cam in and just upgrade the plennum and runners? (prom of couse as well)

Summit #K1103 cam+lifter set will work fine on your 383 with TPI.

The Crane cam+lifters equal is http://www.cranecams.com/?show=brows...59&lvl=2&prt=5
