TPI into clean roller

I recently damaged my 91 Z's frame when I slid into the curb. I gotta ditch the body. I want to remove the engine and possibly transmission and put them into a clean roller. What do I need to know about complete power-train swaps between third gen Camaros? Will the 350 TPI and 700r4 easily swap into any other third gen camaro? Thanks

Camaro or Firebird.

You need to keep your wrecked car until you are done. If you don't, no matter how many parts you keep you'll need something else that you already threw away. All of these 3rd gens, 82-92 will accept the hardware you have.

Good luck!

so in other words I have everything I need in the car the motor and tranny are coming out of, despite which model camaro (z28, iroc, rs) and year(82-92) the 350 TPI and 700r4 are dropped into?

Do not forget ECM and harness - there are differences between years and if recipient was carbed, TBI or TPI equipped. Keep your engine, trany, harness & ECM as a complete unit!

Re: TPI into clean roller

If you get a 90-92 V6 auto car you will simply need your uncut engine wiring harness as removed from the car, gauge cluster, exhaust, dual fans, heater hardpipe (you'll want to remove this after you remove the engine, and install it before you install the engine)

The chassis harness is the same between TPI and V6 cars for 90-92's
Radiators are the same.

You may also want to keep your swaybars and any other little pieces for spares of course.

Re: TPI into clean roller

I just read your thread in the body forums, you would be better off just replacing the damaged parts on that side of the car than having to mess with a complete wiring/engine swap. If all you bent was the control arm and tie rod, even if you bent the k-member (would take a very hard lick to do that) it's all swapable, as long as the uni-body didn't get damaged (should bend the strut before bending the unibody) you should be well off.

Re: TPI into clean roller

the unibody is cracked, i don't want to mess with it, would be good for a body specialist with some time, but thats not me. I'm willing to sell the car as a whole if anybody is interested, 88K and clean as a whistle
