New 350 from Advanced Auto Parts.
So I've been thinking about going this route for a while. it's like 1800 in the car with the core exchanged to them. This a good idea? it's a OEspec motor. Will this just bolt in and hook up to the computer and run like a champ? 3 yr unlimited miles warranty. anyone done this route?
?
Thanks guys =)

I installed one of those in a friend truck. If you go with the long block all you have to add is the accessories on the front anf your intake, carb/TB and I think valve covers. This is a direct replacement and in for a stock engine with warrenty that is the way to go.

Im doing the same thing right now..i have a 82 camaro z28 and i just picked up a rebuilt 350 long block for 1800 tax in.. i need to buy the intake manifold, carb, valve covers, oil pan, water pump, alternator, fuel pump ect.. good thing most of those parts are still brand new off my 305 and i can use them on the 350.

You need to make sure that the block numbers and head numbers are the same as yours. I used to work at Advance, although all auto parts stores have this problem, and the engines did not always come in as what they were supposed to be. We had guys with late 88-92 IROCs, for instance, trying to get a fresh L98 350 to replace their tired 350. Sometimes the engine came in with no roller cam and with truck LO5 TBI heads on it! Sometimes a 305 came in!
I'm not saying you can't get a good deal, I'm saying you need to check everything...

In the back of the Chevy/Corvette trader magazine there is a company that sells a 350 with 350hp from pan to intake, including heads (your choice) and cam (your choice) for $1900! It would be much more motor for the buck!

Havnt bought one from advnace... but considering ordering from citymotor supply out of Texas. I have seen two of their engines work wonderfully first time. They are pretty good about pairing you up with the proper motor and they warranty labor for a year.
Consider www.citymotorsupply.com Especially if you are in Texas. For me they are right down the street. A friend of mine actually went into their warehouse and picked the rebuilt heads he wanted off the shelf. I'd imagine you could pick your casting number over the phone pretty easy if you're not nearby.
Charge for a longblock is about 700-800 plus core.

You get what you payfor, they offer different manufactures for your engine. Look into them.

You can get brand new gm crate engine for $1395 with 260hp/350tq.You may need a new flywheel, and this particular one says it will not fit 86 or newer F.I. models.dont know why.Or a 290hp/326tq for $1929.Both of those hp/tq numbers are with headers and 4 barrel carbs. That catalog is about 2years old so the prices mat be a little higher Joined: Mar 2000

I would consider the Goodwrench 260 HP 350 crate a serious downgrade from an '88 L98.
http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/...20108550238.f6 . My brother got one from them in 2004 for his '93 pickup, another brother just got one for his '92 Suburban. Use your tin & RMS holder; shipping will be more than the core charge so add both of those to the price. That engine will bolt in and run like a champ. You will get 083 heads and roller lifters, assuming you tell them that's what you want. You won't get that offer from Advance Auto (or any of the chain parts stores).
For the record, why are you looking for a different engine?
