built 400 sbc in IROC -- worth it??

I'm just curious as to everyone's thoughts on putting a built 400 sbc in an IROC. Also, if anyone's put one in ANY 3rdgen, what problems did they have? Thanks, everyone.

Not sure what you mean by that?

I had a 400 in my car for a long time. I had problems tearing up T-5s and rear ends.

Mine was "built" I guess... for sure, it wasn't disassembled. Most of the time anyway.

My issue was a destroyed T5, with an auto you should be okay.

Tricking the emissions test guy was an issue as well!

My uncle is in the process of putting one in his 78 Camaro. It just dynoed around 600 HP at the flywheel.

Re: built 400 sbc in IROC -- worth it??

I have one in mine. Great engine. Can make lots of power due to the large displacement. According to the build I followed, I'm at 430 hp and 525ft/lbs.

It fits in just like any other small block. The only difference is you will need an externally balanced flywheel/flexplate OR a balance plate.

Re: built 400 sbc in IROC -- worth it??

what I meant by "built" is that its got aftermarket performance parts and has been machined, bored, etc. I was just wanting to see what kinds of problems people have had when putting one in a 3rd gen. Thanks for your input guys.
