2.8 to 305 Help
Ok I have read the tech article about v6-v8 swaps. I have a 1985 Firebird with the stock 2.8L MFI V6 and my rods are knocking badly and the main bearing is blown. I decided instead of replacing this motor and spending the time and money to do it, I am just going to swap to a v8, which is what I planned on doing in the first place. Well now my buddy has a very nice 305 he is going to sell me and I was wondering how difficult of a swap I'm looking at. And mainly what am I going to have to replace.

the motor, tranny, motor mounts, fuel pump, computer (unless your going to run a carb) and i think front springs have to be replaced to handle that extra weight.
but consider this 350>305! and is this going to be a stock dd or a mild rebuild with some bolt ons?

It's been rebuilt from the ground up and has some decent work done to it. It's all Chevy orange I believe is the color name with chrome parts, and I believe is carbed. Also I read that I might not have to get a new tranny. I read somewhere that the tranny that came with my car will bolt up to a 305. I don't know so I'm not sure

Re: 2.8 to 305 Help
your tranny has to be changed! it says that the 4.3L s-10 tranny will work iirc but bell housing and tailshaft aren't going to work. why not go to a wrecker and pull a 700r4 or 200r4 or t-5 or something to replace it. besides that tranny u have now has to be worn out so why not just get a junk tranny to throw on ther?
Re: 2.8 to 305 Help
HEY EVERYONE I AM DOING THE SAME THING I HAVE A 1986 CHEVY CAMARO BERLINETTA WITHA MULTIPORT 2.8 AND A 5SPD TRANNY. I HAVE A 305 THAT CAME OUT OF A 1990 CHEVY SCOTTSDALE AND I AND BUILDING IT UP. I WILL BE UNPLUGGING THE ECM AND GOING CARB WITH MANUAL GAUGES.AND I ALSO KNOW I NEED A SHALLOWER OIL PAN FOR THE CROSSOVER PIPE AND I KNOW I NEED THE BIGGER PIPES THE ONLY QUESTIONS I HAVE IS FOR A TRANNY WHAT WILL I NEED? I WANT A 5SPD IS THAT THE T-10? SHOULD I GET A FLYWHEEL FOR A 1990 CAMRO WITH A 305 AND THEN TRY TO FIND A TRANNY FOR IT? I WAS TOLD MY OLD 2.8 5SPD TRANNY WONT WORK (BELLHOUSING OF INPUTSHAFT SIZE) IS THAT TRUE? PLEASE HELP WITH COMMENTS AND OPINIONS THANKS.

Thread highjacking aside, welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
A truck oil pan will fit in a 3rd gen just fine. Not sure who told you otherwise, but except for the LSx series engines, Gen I and Vortec truck blocks/oil pans will fit in 3rd gens without modification.
A T10 is a 4-speed manual transmission. A T5 is a weak 5-speed overdrive transmission, which came in V8 (weak) and V6 (even weaker) versions. The later 3rd gens had "World Class" T5's - search the Transmission and Drivetrain forum for details about those differences. The V6 to V8 swap sticky explains why V6 transmissions won't work on V8's.
A '90 3rd gen f-body flywheel would be fine for any '86-up 350.
