305 swap, 5 speed, to auto. Please Help!
Hello all,
My 1986 z28 has a 305 in it with a 5 speed manual tranny. Everything is stock, and needs to be rebuilt. I found a 305 for sale out of another 3rd gen, but was bolted up to an automatic. How hard would it be to bolt that engine onto my existing 5 speed. Is it possible? What would i need to mod, or install to make it compatible if anything?
THANKS!!!

Answer: easy for a brain surgoen, hard for the rest of us. Are you a brain surgeon? then I can't answer that for you.
It'll take alot of turning of bolts, but IMO there's nothing "hard" about it. Just time consuming. Probably take 5-6 hours at least. Maybe less if you have air.

You'd use the ENTIRE other engine; your flywheel, bell housing, trans, and so on; and your existing computer and wiring. About the most you might have to do is to swap out as much of the TPI as is different (cold start injector, MAF vs S/D, things like that), if the other one is a different year model. And, potentially the flywheel, if the other one is a 85. If the other is 86 up, yours will work and you won't have to worry about it.
Really, about as close to a "no brainer" as they come. Which is why I'm qualified to talk about it, more than most: I have no brain.
