so what should i do?

my 89 iroc spun a rod bearing it sounds pretty bad, I was wondering what would be the best route to go so you guys give me some suggestions. This is the info i have about my motor:

355 speed pro hyper.30 flattop pistons machined with floating pin, total seal rings, shot peened rods with arp bolts, remanufactured crank, melling oil pump, double roller timing chain, lt4 hotcam, 1.6 lt4(GM Crane)roller rockers. lt1 pushrods and lifters. new sdpc vortec heads upgraded with springs for higher lift. holley stealthram with adj fuel reg., 58mm lingenfelter throttlebody

It was rebuilt only 500 miles ago before it spun a rod, so my options would be what???

1)Disassemble motor down to short block take it somewhere and see if they can rebuild it (turn crank, new rod???)

2) buy a zz4 shortblock (like $2400)

3) sell heads, intake, cam, any other parts and buy a whole new goodwrench motor (like 4600)

I'd rather just find a 355 shortblock somewhere with flat tops somwhere but cant trust any 800 dollar ebay blocks

At a minimum, you're going to have to know you have a clean engine when you go to start it again. So, which route you go really is your choice.

Sorry to not be much help, but that's about all anyone else can say for you.

Re: so what should i do?

I'll be no help either but I can empathize with you, my cousin gave me his dirt bike in a few boxes and as soon as I got all the pieces and finished building it up it smashed apart the rod bearing. Then I built it better and stronger. Good luck and keep us posted on what route you go.

Re: so what should i do?

I found a zz4 shortblock on craigslist, it has about 8000 miles on it the guy says, he wants 1500 I wouldnt give him that much, but what do I have to look out for buying a used short block?

First is why they're selling it. 2nd, just general condition. It would be almost impossible to tell what shape it's in without a complete disassembly.

Re: so what should i do?

i just found a zz4 short block new for like 1150..

this one has cast crank though, but i dont need a forged anyways. Just gonna need a thin head gasket to try and bump up that CR.

That's not a ZZ4 shortblock. But, it isn't a bad choice.

Head gasket choice is a matter of getting proper quench. You shouldn't try to manipulate CR with head gasket thickness.

Re: so what should i do?

oh i guess its not... geez they just raised the price 100 bucks today, those bastards! It looks exactly like the zz4 but without a steel crank. I have spdc vortec heads, I believe the CC is 63cc's, I could put a .027" head gasket in there and the CR would be around ~9.5:1 I think, which aint bad for a street motor? Any other suggestions on small blocks five7??
