serpintine system to pre 80's engine

I am currently putting 79 350 into 89 RS conv. Can you drill additional bolt hole needed into passenger side head to mount that sides serpintine bracket or better to only use the three bolts that are accessible. Bought complete serp. system from e-bay came with the smaller original alt.(physically smaller) , my car had old style v-belt drives due to previous swap, thus having old style 3-wire alt. ,what are wiring connections to switch back to 5-wire original 89 alt.sorry if this sounds confusing, trying to get a/c mount back.

Re: serpintine system to pre 80's engine

I only had one bolt hole on the pass. side head and i was still able to bolt up my a.c bracket. I got rid of the smog pump. There are enough other mounting points on the block and things that the 2 bolts arent a big deal.
I will let someone else answer the other question about wiring.
I just bolted up my brackets last night. With out the smog pump I used a 96.8 inch 6 rib belt. goodluck

I'll try to grab some next time I see my car... it might be over the weekend since that is the next time I am working on it.
It really is simple though. I just ignored the fact that 2 bolt holes are missing and bolted everything up as it would have been stock. Mine also had a bracket from the exhaust bolt to the accy. bracket. Ill show you guys soon if theres much more confusion.

Re: serpintine system to pre 80's engine

Heah guys I have a 383 storker I just had built. It came from a 76 camaro. I want to put it into a 89 Iroc.

I have done engine swaps before on 70's camaro/novas's but have never done any work with TPI/FI systems or messed with ecm systems.

My goal is to put my 70's gen 383 carbed out into the iroc and have the 700r behind it.

What elese do I need to be concerned with in this swap. Such as Serpintine belts and such things.

Any help would be great thankx

Re: serpintine system to pre 80's engine

I had the 305 I took out(to use as a sacrficial head) and bolted a/c bracket to it used hole in bracket to guide 3/8 bit into head to mark spot for hole took off bracket drilled 3/16 pilot through head into water jacket ,depth of 1/2" before entering jacket. Thought I could go 3/8" deep on 350 heads without hitting water jacket, wrong idea,350 heads have maybe 1/4 " before hitting jacket. Was able to drill 5/16 hole and thread for 3/8" bolt, maybe 4 threads, Made stud out of bolt put in with liquid sealant on threads, started motor leaked ,took out put teflon paste thread sealer, still leaked, put teflon tape with teflon paste no leaks so far with a 7lb rad. cap. Not sure if I had to do it again, would not just bolt up bracket without using that one bolt, seemed to not be tight against head without using that bolt.
