I recently acquired a tpi air cleaner housing but I am not sure if it is right. I will try to describe it to the best of my ability.
The one I have has the normal top that looks like a "V". That bolts to another piece that looks the same but houses the 2 filters, but the filters are open underneath with no protection. Is there something missing that goes below that, like another plastic piece? I can't see the filters just being open like that.

I am swapping a tbi to a tpi setup, that is why I do not know.

 

on the camaro tpi air filter housing there should only be openings on the sides of the lower part. alot! of people cut the bottom off so the filter has no restriction and is open as you call it.
