Heads Casting number
Heads Casting number
Hey guys i just scored a entire bottom end with a boiled 350 block thirty over, pistons, bearing and cam (choose from 6) for 200 bucks (guys in a jam). So i'm going to be rebuilding my motor sooner then expected. What i need is the casting number of stock 350 heads that will work for tpi intake and keep the egr functional.... I'm still lost as to how you tell the differnece between the heads and which ones willl keep the egr functional. If anyone can elaborate i'd really appreciate it. Sorry for the ignorance but the only motors i've ever rebuilt had carbs and we didn't have to worry about egr passage ways and all that.... If you could provide casting numebrs it would be greatly appreciated b/c i just can't justify throwing down 1200 bucks for set of edelbrock 60859s this cars not gonna be a race car.. Thanks for all the help so far guys

Re: Heads Casting number
I think only the center bolt valve cover heads will be a direct bolt on for a TPI intake. The mount bolts do straight down into the heads. The older heads, the bolts go in at an angle to the intake.
The TPI intake can be adapted to the older style heads by modifying the holes in the intake.

083 were the stock L98 f-body TPI heads. 081 were the 305 TPI heads, and will work fine on a 350 (search if you want to know what mods would make them better).
Avoid 993, 991, 187, 882, 624.

Re: Heads Casting number
i have a a current 305 that has a really bad knock so i could take the heads off that and have them punched with the bigger valves but will they flow anywere decent enough to work well with the new motor. I don't like putting sub-par parts on a car just to get it to run. But if the heads can be machined to work well with it i just may do that instead. THanks for the posts so far guys
