Hi I own a 1992 pontiac firebird v6 auto, the head gasket blew and I got the car cheap, Im in process of swap a 350 carb into this car, and the more I read the more im confuse, about the tranny, wiring, engine mouting, fuse pump, computer, I just dont know where to start, can some one break it down for me, what I need complete to swap a card 350 into my v6 fuse injector automatic please, btw should I buy a complete stock 350 engine to begin with or this guy selling me a 350 carb with .60 bore over, cam, engine is build for race, something like that, and he say the car is 13 or 12 something compression, even 92 octain barely good for the car, only race gas, I want somthing that depenable, and I can drive every day. thanks you for reading and please help me out.

Where are you located? You can buy my '86 Trans Am that has a small block 400 in it and just use it for parts if you want. It's even got rear disc brakes that you can swap over!
But to actually answer your question, you are gonna have to pull the tank to remove the in-tank pump and make yourself a pick-up tube then use some sort of aftermarket in-line pump.
Pull out your ECM(computer) and follow the wiring from it around the engine disconnecting as you go. I actually just did all this on my 86 Trans Am. The main issue I had was that you have to basically drop out the entire rear suspension just to pull the fuel tank and you will have to either wire the electric fan up to a switch or so it'll come on when you turn on the key.
As for that 350 the guy is going to sell you, .060 over is quite abit and some people seem to have cooling issues with engines bored that big as it makes the cylinder walls rather thing. Another thing as you pointed out yourself is the 12:1 - 13:1 compression. That is NOT pump gas friendly. I would stay away from that if you plan on keeping that thing a street car.
Good luck and happy motoring!

You need a transmission with a Chevy V8 bellhousing pattern, yes.

Re: Man I so confuse and depress about swap a carb v8 350 in to my 92 v6 firebird.
stop with the panic already this is the easiest swap known to man first ask yourself if you want od or not if not turbo 350 if so 700r4 use mounts from any v8 car such as 78 malibu el dog or caprice you will use frt mounting holes in your frame, same tranny mount same driveshaft and the best way to wire this thing is simply cut all emission wires only keep coil wire starter and alt wires gotta go drive the bus now ,im a automechanics instructor but ill be back and well walk you thru this piece of cake man trust me ---------------------------------bigzeke355cid92bird

That is a 2-bolt or 4-bolt SBC block from 1968-1980. It's probably a 327 or 350.
13:1? Dang.

Get aftermarket poly mounts - poly inserts for the engine mounts, poly mount for the transmission.

dude, you need to find a " pull a-part junk yard" near you and raid some third gen. or you need to find a local beater sitting in someones back yard and strip that thing. your best bet would be to find a v8 car and use your v6 for parts!

by the way, stay away from the engine with high compression. trust me i'm speaking from experience, you'll have all types of rattles, pinging, and spark knocking. unless you can afford 7 bucks or more for a gallon of gas!

Re: Man I so confuse and depress about swap a carb v8 350 in to my 92 v6 firebird.
a buddy of mine going to tray me his block he been build it for over 4 month now, he got the block out off 1992 cadillac 350, and use my camel hump head, when it done it will be 10.1 compression, or 9 somthing compression, that good enough for street.
btw wat oil filter do I need to use, I look up wix filter, and one for 51060 and other is 51069, but both use 350 block, what should I use ?
if I want to get fuel filter, should I got with the engine year or my car year 1992 pontiac firebird v6 or should I say v8 ? thanks

not sure about the caddy 350. the double hump heads are great heads if you have the high horse heads. some double humps were not that powerful.
like i said before,be careful with the high compression! it may bite you on the butt. i have an old set of heads with 10.5 to 1 and i hate it. 93 octaine is to weak and the racing fuel cost too much. i'm in the process of saving the money for some different heads now.
the oil filter, i would get the one for the car it come out of.
not sure about the fuel filter. i have an inline filter under my hood so its easy to change plus they only cost about 5 bucks.
