Carb Swap Need Help ASAP
Im changing my 87 GTA TPI over to carb. Im selling parts and my factory motor and I have a guy that wants it. He wants the wireing harness and ECM too. My questions..What all do I need from the harness/ECM to make my factory gauges work. Is there anything controlled from this other than the gauges I need to know about. Is there anything I need off of it? Should I just let him have it all or what. Thanks for the help

Gauges, starter, and dizzy. You will also need to re-wire the fan.

On my '85, they were not part of the TPI harness.
Check out a Summit or Jegs catalog. Choose a fan controller that works off a water temperature sensor. I used a Painless wiring unit that was easy to install. It had a screw in sensor that mounted right on the intake manifold coolant supply. It was very reliable.

Im not worried about making the fans work, but my factory gauges and what wires run into the pass. fender to power the gauges. Iv found a site to make the speedo work with a Th400.

There are sensor wires that run to the passenger side harness, but not gage wires.

Re: Carb Swap Need Help ASAP
for him to make the engine work correctly, he'll need the entire TPI harness and ECM which includes the gauge wiring that's built into the TPI harness. All of the gauges can be tapped into on the side of the bulkhead connector that the TPI harness plugs into. Now if you're going to continue running the in tank fuel pump, that wiring does go through the passenger side wiring connector, plugs into the connector under the dash and then runs all the way over to the driver side plug that goes to the back with the taillights and such. You will also need to give him the relays that are bolted above the brake booster in the setup.

You can sell him the ECM, the harness that goes from it to the engine compartment, and everything on the other end of the harness.
