Welcome to thirdgen.org.
Yes, you can. Externally the engines are dimensionally identical. But, as always, the devil is in the details. How much do you know about 383's, and the changes to small block Chevys over the years?

If you've identified a 383, then you need to know the details: what block was used, what type of crank (rear main seal type, specifically), internally or externally balanced (which isn't universally followed what exactly that means), roller or flat tappet lifters.

I'm sure you'll have to do some rewiring for the DFI. Let Accel help with that part.

Re: 305 to z383
then it is running at the stock setting. if you look in the cooling sections of thirdgen.org you will find lots of way to make you car run cooler. you would have to do things like thermostat AND fan switch cause if you dont get the fans on sooner than the factory setting then a stat will get you nowhere.

Re: 305 to z383
Dont mean to hi-jack, but Im thinking about the same swap. A 383 from Blueprint (Jegs has them, and Ive searched for them here also). Ive tried searching, but Im comfused over what parts from my 305 I can reuse. I think I can reuse the:
Water pump
Flexplate (maybe)
accessory brackets for A/C, P/S, and the Alternator
motor mounts
and even the same hoses.
I know the fuel pump has to be changed as well as the pickup. And Ill need a distributer. But as stated above, the devil is in the details, and I dont know much about the details. Is there a post that includes everything thats reusable for the swap?

There won't be one with all of the details because there are too many configuration possibilities from '82-'92.
I wouldn't reuse hoses - replace them.
Fuel pump pick-up shouldn't have to be changed.
Are you going carb, or sticking with TBI? I assume carb since you mentioned needing a different distributor. You will need a fuel pressure regulator if you use the in-tank electric pump, or modify the pick-up per the sticky on the Carburetor forum if you use mechanical or in-line electric.

Re: 305 to z383
Yeah carbed, sorry.
So the accessories will all bolt up? And I assume the flexplate also, as long as the engine I replace mine with is a one piece seal, correct?
And I have a single fan. I assume Ill need a dual to keep the bigger engine cool, right? Do you guys buy after market, or just hit the junk yard for a factory dual fan set-up?
Ill stop with the stupid questions. I just need to know, so I know what Im looking at for a swap cost. And searching turns up alot of info, but I dont always find exactly what I need to know. Thanks.
