putting the cart before the horse

I bought a zz383 from pace performance parts and am now worried that it will not fit under my stock iroc hood. Should i start saving for my cowl hood now? Here is the link to the motor. http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...&ProdID=228282 My first engine swap. I guess I should have done the research but I got it for 5500 out the door as you see it.

Why won't it fit under the hood?

Re: putting the cart before the horse

the guy at pace said there might be a fitment issue with the air gap manifold and the "stock style air inlet system". As I said before this is my first swap and I am kinda dreeding the unknown.

You might be able to use a drop base air cleaner. Try a search on the carb board to see if anyone else is using that intake and carb with a stock hood.

Re: putting the cart before the horse

I tried the search option but to no avail. I will try it using different phrases. I do thank you for your input but I think I will have to try it to know for sure. I really like the black combo from Chevy and as they say black is the new chrome. It might just give me a reason to buy a hood anyways.

Black is the new chrome? 10 years ago I painted some chrome valve covers black because I didn't like chrome. Other than a couple of things like store bought brackets and bolts, there's no chrome under my hood.

I have lots of aluminum on my car but very little chrome.

It's a stupid phrase I saw at the drags in Columbus, and I can't get it out of my head. Kudos to you for being a trend setter. My point was that I like the look and do not want to put parts on a motor I just bought. It is my fault for not checking first but, it's paid for now and that's why I'm asking for input from fellow third gen owners that have some knowledge on the intake and carb height, since I cannot find any info yet.

Re: putting the cart before the horse

I have the edlebrock vortec airgap manifold with the drop base air cleaner, 1 inch adapter plate (to mate the tbi to the manifold) The only thing I did was trimmed the bolt the the nut thread to on the air cleaner.

That's a drop-base air cleaner.

The intake is pretty tall. Not because it's an air gap, but because it's single plane. I don't recall hearing a thirdgen.org member saying whether or not it will clear a stock hood. About the only way to know is to try it. If you hood doesn't fit, you've got the choice to make between a different hood, or a different intake manifold (such as the Vortec Performer RPM).

It will fit just use a 1/2" spacer so the brake booster fitting will fit and use a 2.5" drop base filter the 3" filter doesn't fit the greatest even with the drop base.
