89 Iroc BBC sway bar clearance

I have an 89 Iroc, I just bolted in a 454 bbc with a th400. The problem that I have run into is that the crankshaft pulley looks to be sitting on the sway bar.
Has anyone else run into this problem? What do I do to correct this? Sorry about the size of the pic, I don't know how to make it a thumbnail.

I would think different diameter pulleys would solve the problem.. it does look pretty close, is it actually touching?

Did you put in new engine mount inserts, poly, perhaps? Stock rubber ones sag over time.

Do you have the back of the engine at the proper height?

I don't have the trans crossmember in yet, I have the spohn piece with tq arm relocation. The trans is on a jack. I have not replaced the mount inserts as of yet.

i would surely change the mounts inserts to see if it helps. not only r they probably wore out but they also have one heck of a heavier load on them with a iron headed BB.

Re: 89 Iroc BBC sway bar clearance

I had the same pulley on my bbc and it was not a problem, I wouldn`t worry until it is all bolted up, new poly mounts or a under drive pulley would fix it if ends up too close

Which mounts did you use? I used all the stock 305 hardware, on both the block and frame mounts.

thanks to all of you. I look forward to driving this car next summer. It will be going down after that for a rebuild for the winter.

Re: 89 Iroc BBC sway bar clearance

You can always space the swaybar down away from the frame by a quarter inch, even if you just use longer bolts and some washers, until everything's finalized.
