My 1990 v6 RS to 454 swap
My 1990 v6 RS to 454 swap
well its been a friggin good minute but the damn thing is almost done. just a couple more small things and well have it finished.
First off the engine with all the long accessories fits but we had to ditch the electric fans for now and go with an engine mounted one (no shroud yet)
there were questions on whether the HEI distributor fit with or without knockin back the firewall oddly it did. of course i am going to have to get a cowl hood because the motor does sit rather high and the stock hood aint gonna cut it .
The cars has a fuel pump pushes i think 12 psi of fuel which is to much for the carburetor so we installed a fuel regulator problem is its cycling the fuel back around and it's spilling out so were gonna have to get what this guy was calling a bypass valve regulator (i think dont quote me on that)
as far as headers go the ones from hookers 2226-1HKR i believe fit like a friggin charm i mean really snug no beating in of the frame or welding none of that
Transmission were using is the turbo 400 (shortail easier to use) SPOHN parts help out like you wouldnt friggin believe. I got the tourque arm from them and the driveshaft a tranny shield (not gonna use) . Also the driveshaft as yall already know is custom for this type of swap so the rear end is stock. Now if i want the speedometer to work im gonna have to get this box that converts it from mechanical to electrical so it'll actually read right Im ditching the air conditioner for now .
45 degree angle spark plug wires
i think thats about it
SO yeah ill i have left is the power steering pump (old style) and the cowl hood and the shocks for the front cuz it weighed this sucker way down at its draggin i do need help finding out which suspension parts to get cuz im sorta lost there but im leaning towards something form Strange Engineering if i can find it but QA1 looks like where im headed.
Last but not least this might explain why everything else fit so good...i got the original small block mounts from a junk yard and hooked them up to the brackets that were already on the motor(came from a 86 suburban i believe) and it didnt line up to the original mount holes so the mounts we are gonna have to weld to the body oh wellz
whew!! ill post pics tommorrow seein as how i aint got a damn USB chord for my phone on hand and thats were all the pics are at but i will warn u this was done on a somewhat of a budget so the engine is going in as is with no kind of aftermarket anything so it is not pretty at all...seriously but its louder than holy hell and cranks up beautifully.
almost forgot Exhaust polly not important though those headers come out to about 4 inches but trying to pick between racing cats and flowmaster or just pipe and flowmasters only because it is really friggin loud and im not trying to get pulled over just for excessive noise
