91 305 TBI to 385ci LT1 swap now tach inaccurate

I swapped my TBI system out for a highly modified LT1 and the motor runs strong but my tach is now off by 50%. When idling my laptop says I am running 650-700rpms and motor sounds like its running that but my tach is showing 1400-1500rpms and if I hold a steady 4000rpms my laptop says I am running 2000 rpms and at 7000 rpms on the tach I am running 3500 rpms. What can I do to make my tach a little more usable. Right now its just a useless needle moving around on the dash.
