305 vs 350 cost if you have a 305
305 vs 350 cost if you have a 305
i have a 305 and in stead of geting a 350 . would it not be better solved if i get heads cam ,forged pistons and crank shaft, carb and then all the outside parts headers etc .. then to spend all this money on a 350 then have to put parts in it .. also keep in mind i am only looking for 400 hp not to make a drag car just to make a project .

There are literally thousands of 350 blocks out there for cheap. If you're considering buying all those internal parts you might as well stick them in a 350.

You can make more power per dollar doing heads, cam, intake & exhaust on a 305 {edit - goofed and put 350 twice} than you can putting in a 350, since it will also need heads, cam, intake & exhaust.
But, when you start talking about crank and pistons (let alone forged), you're headed down the path of diminishing returns. Then it's time to go find a 350, shortblock at least, to build.

Haha 400 isnt a hard goal to reach but most people dont know how much work it actually takes to hit that mark. and imo if you really want that much hp and still be stable and reliable i would go with the 350.

Another option is to do what I did. Go ahead and buy a decent cam, carb, intake, headers etc. and put 'em on the 305 then when you get ahold of a 350 down the road you didn't waste your money since the parts you bought will interchange.

But it is NOT what you said in your original post.
Forget the forged 305 internals. Forget even rebuilding your 305 shortblock. Then I'm with you.
Even so, a 350 with the same parts will make about 75 HP more, and would be easier to drive.

it will cost a few extra bucks to go to a 350 if you only have a 305 but for the difference your HP and TQ numbers will greatly improve! go 350 or more!
