i need a longblock but dont know what to get does it have to be a 87 or newer block much help needed. thanks in advance

 

it doesn't have to be but it will be a better engine due to the one piece rear main and roller cam. if your car has an 87 or newer block with perimeter bolt heads (doubtful, all smallblocks 87-now have centerbolt heads), then you could get the same block as a crate shortblock and swap over your heads so you can keep using your factory intake manifold.

 

so would an older block with the first vortec heads work?
