Dont blast me for not searching cause I did. I have a 89 rs with a 305 tbi. I just bought another one for real cheap that I have no info on what so ever. Was left behind at a rental. I do know its a 89 rs tbi with t tops, & it has center bolt valve covers. What code would be stamped on the motor if its a 350?

 

On the side of the block will be cast 5.7L

Get the casting number off the block. Since a 305 and 350 have different bore sizes, a simple casting number will be the easiest way to tell if it's a 305 or a 350.

 

K so if it is a 350 then the number will be in the same place as my 305?

 

yeah...on the rear of the driver's side head....but if it's the original motor, in a rs...it's a 305.

 

Dam. God please send me a 350 lol. Thought anything could be an option. Oh well.

 

yeah.....no tbi motors were 350's....only tpi. and not many of those....sometime you can tell by factory badges...if it says tuned port injection, it's a 5.0...if it says 5.7 tuned port injection, then of course it's a 5.7. Also you can check by the vin number..but best way if of course to check the block numbers it self..also if it came with a factory 5-speed..then it is also only a 305...

 

How sure R U about the tbi only on 305's? seems like I read a lot about 350 tbi motors. Maybe just on the trucks? It has a 700r4. Better yet ill google the history of the camaro. Find out for sure. Should have done that first. Sorry.

 

check the vin look it up on the camaro or berlinetta web site and it will tel u what letter or number to look for.it will also tell u what tranny have ur hp and torque

According to the tech data, an 89 RS with a V8 will be a 305 with a TBI. In 89, the 350 wasn't offered to the RS and the 350 had TPI.

Ya I knew it had to be to good to be true. It was not made with a 350.

 

check the VIN# if the 8th number is an 8 then its a 350 but my car is the same as urs but with out t-tops and the number on mine is "E" hope that helps ya.
