305 replacement question
ok ok im very noob when it comes to this particular aspect of vehicles.... my 86 IROC with the 305 FI has some bad blow by and we suspect the rings are going.... my question is... is 900.00 plus tax a good price on a remanufactured long block? i have no clue... and if someone can suggest a place to get one cheaper plz let me know.... still searching for a decent install price lol.... dont have a ton to work with.... military dont pay us a fortune lmao..... btw i am in louisiana ....
also does neone know a fairly cheap place for a 305 crate engine... i figure its cheaper to go with exactly what shes got under the hood now vs. going to a 350....

If you're going to get a reman, don't go to a parts-store chain. Spend a little more, go to GM and get one (yes they sell reman engines). The parts stores motors are junk.

$900 isn't a bad price. A reputable place should also include a warranty.
I'd look into swapping to a 350, it may surprise you how little extra it will cost.
Check into your local auto hobby shop on base. They will usually provide the space, tools AND someone with expertise to help at minimum cost.

yea its not really a parts store "chain" it is a company that sells remanned engines and internals...

It isn't unusual for a 350 crate to cost less than a 305 crate.
